Brewery Arts in Kendal is in the running for the British Independent Film Awards’ Cinema of the Year award, and the venue is asking the public to support its bid.

The award is supported by Kia and celebrates cinemas that play an important role in their communities. Brewery Arts said its cinema programme brings people in Kendal together to watch independent films, while providing a place for audiences to connect through cinema.

How to support Brewery Arts

The winner will be decided through a public vote, making audience backing central to the award. Voting is open until 22 September 2026, and Brewery Arts is encouraging supporters of the venue and independent film to cast their votes.

The nominees are due to be announced on 3 November, before the winner is revealed at the BIFA ceremony on 30 November.

What the award recognises

BIFA’s Cinema of the Year award focuses on cinemas at the heart of their communities. It recognises venues that champion independent film and bring audiences together for shared big-screen experiences.

The award’s organisers say it celebrates exceptional cinemas and the meaningful film experiences they provide. Kia has supported independent cinema since 2022 and is backing the award.

Brewery Arts published its appeal for votes on 6 September 2026. Supporters can vote for the Kendal venue through the link provided in Brewery Arts’ announcement.
