Kendal’s Castle Green Hotel has been put on the market for £10 million, giving investors the chance to acquire one of the town’s largest hotel operations at the gateway to the Lake District.

The 99-bedroom hotel sits in 14 acres on the outskirts of Kendal. It is being sold by Colliers’ Hotels Agency team following a strategic review by the companies that own the hotel.

What Castle Green offers

Castle Green is a four-star site with extensive conference facilities, a leisure club, two restaurants and a bar. The hotel operates under the Best Western Premier Collection.

It is currently run by a third-party management company alongside an in-house team. The sale therefore concerns an established trading business as well as its land, accommodation and visitor facilities.

Why the hotel is being marketed

Stephen Broome, director of the hotel-owning companies, described Castle Green as a strong regional hotel with an established business and an attractive location. He said its scale, facilities and varied customer base could appeal to investors seeking a substantial hotel operation in a major UK leisure destination.

“Castle Green is a particularly strong regional hotel, combining an established trading business with an attractive location at the gateway to the Lake District.”

Julian Troup, head of UK Hotels Agency at Colliers, said the Lake District continued to attract strong leisure demand. He also pointed to Kendal’s connectivity and its importance to the year-round corporate and events market.

“Castle Green benefits from both, alongside its extensive grounds and established leisure and conference offering, creating a compelling opportunity for a new owner to take the business forward.”

The marketing presents the hotel’s grounds, leisure facilities, conference business and mix of customers as key features for a prospective buyer. No buyer has been identified in the supplied announcement.
