Levens Hall will open for Christmas visitors across three December weekends, offering decorated historic rooms, live carols, a festive menu and visits from Father Christmas. The event runs from Friday 4 December to Sunday 20 December 2026, with opening hours of 10.30am to 4pm and last entry at 3.30pm.
The hall is five miles south of Kendal at LA8 0PD, making the event a potential festive day out for local families and visitors travelling through South Lakeland.
Christmas opening dates and prices
The Christmas opening is scheduled for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays on 4, 5 and 6 December; 11, 12 and 13 December; and 18, 19 and 20 December. Visitors do not need to book general admission and can pay on the day.
- Adults: £9.50
- Children aged five to 16: £3
- Under-fives: free
- Father Christmas: £25 for one child and one adult, with booking essential
Historic Houses membership does not cover this special event, so members will still need to pay. Coach groups can ask Levens Hall about discounted packages by calling 015395 60321 or emailing [email protected].
Levens Hall has a separate events-diary listing that describes the event as running from Friday 4 December to Wednesday 23 December. However, its dedicated Christmas page identifies only the nine Fridays and weekends listed above. Anyone considering a weekday visit is advised to contact the hall before travelling.
Carols, decorations and Father Christmas
The house will be decorated for Christmas with fires lit, while local choirs and musicians perform carols and traditional Christmas music in the Great Hall. The music is scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays in two sessions: 11am to 1pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm. The full performer line-up had not been published when the information was checked on 7 October 2026.
The topiary garden will be open for visitors to walk around, and Levens Kitchen will serve a festive menu. The hall’s bakery and gift shop are separate from the Christmas opening and remain open seven days a week. Levens Kitchen is listed as open from 9.30am to 4.30pm through to 31 December.
Father Christmas will welcome children in the Old Nursery on Saturdays and Sundays: 5 and 6 December, 12 and 13 December, and 19 and 20 December. Five-minute slots run from 10.45am to 3.30pm, with a lunch break. The £25 ticket covers one child and one adult, with one child booked per slot. Additional adults pay the normal admission fee on arrival.
Families booking for two or more children should select the first slot, then use the ticket shop’s “Add more” option to choose the next slot. Some appointments on the first Saturday had already been taken by 7 October.
Workshops and travel information
Five Christmas workshops are listed in November and December. They include rag-rug wreath sessions on Friday 13 November and Monday 16 November, both priced at £55; gold-leaf Christmas cards on Friday 4 December for £40; a family Christmas-card workshop on Saturday 5 December for £20; and a Christmas Cornucopia table-decoration workshop on Monday 14 December for £70, including a light lunch.
The workshops must be booked separately. The Cornucopia session has strictly limited places, while the three Bob Sutcliffe workshops are booked through bobsutcliffeart.com.
Free parking is available at Levens Hall. Drivers travelling from the M6 should leave at junction 36, take the A590 towards Barrow, then the A6 south towards Milnthorpe and follow the brown signs.
For visitors without a car, Levens Hall says the 555 Lakes Rider service between Keswick and Lancaster stops outside the hall via Kendal. It runs hourly on weekdays and every two hours on Sundays, although travellers should check the December timetable before setting off. Oxenholme station is about 10 minutes away by taxi.
The house and gardens will remain open under the normal season until Sunday 8 November, with admission of £15 for adults and £5 for children. Halloween Ghostly House Tours are scheduled from 29 October to 1 November before the Christmas programme begins.
