Residents and visitors can once again use the refurbished public toilets on Fell Street in Barrow after Westmorland and Furness Council completed a project to improve the town-centre facilities.
The upgraded male, female and accessible toilets are now fully open. The work included new windows and doors, upgraded cubicles, improved electrics and a full redecoration, creating what the council describes as a brighter, safer and more welcoming environment.
What has changed
The scheme was funded through the council’s capital programme and forms part of its wider commitment to improving town-centre facilities and supporting Barrow’s ongoing regeneration.
“We are pleased to see the completion of the refurbishment of the Fell Street toilets, which provides a much improved facility for everyone using Barrow town centre.“Investing in high quality, accessible public amenities is an important part of our ambition to make Barrow a great place to live, work and visit. These upgrades will help ensure people feel comfortable and supported when spending time in the town, while contributing to a more welcoming and vibrant environment.”
During the closure, Barrow Town Hall toilets were made available for public use. The council has decided to continue that arrangement, with the facilities available during the building’s normal opening hours.
The council said it continues to invest in infrastructure and services intended to support communities and improve the everyday experience of residents and visitors across the Westmorland and Furness area.
