South Lakes Housing residents who are unemployed, receiving benefits or earning a low income are being offered free training to become teaching assistants, with the course due to start on 14 September 2026.
The fully funded Level 2 programme is being provided through a partnership between South Lakes Housing, Kendal College, CIDORI and Auxicia. Funding has been secured specifically for the community, allowing eligible adults aged 19 and over to access training without course fees.
What the course offers
The online course will use tutor-led sessions and lead to a nationally recognised NCFE Level 2 qualification. It is aimed at people interested in working in schools or supporting children and young people.
Alongside the qualification, participants will receive confidence-building support and help with CVs, interviews and job applications. The programme is also supported by employers and local job opportunities.
Who can apply and how to get involved
Applications are open to eligible South Lakes Housing residents aged 19 or over who are unemployed, on benefits or earning a low income. The organisers say the initiative is intended to help residents develop skills, build confidence and move towards employment, apprenticeships or further education.
Residents who want more information can scan the QR code in the original South Lakes Housing post or contact Nicola Arnold at CIDORI by email at [email protected]. Further details are also available through the linked opportunities information in the announcement.
The course is part of South Lakes Housing’s wider commitment to supporting residents into meaningful work and helping them take positive steps towards employment.
