Bus passengers in Kendal could face route and timetable changes under proposals put forward by Stagecoach after passenger numbers fell and traffic congestion affected services across the town.

The company is consulting on modifications to its Kendal Town Network until midnight on September 18. Stagecoach said slower traffic had made operating conditions more difficult, while worsening punctuality and reduced passenger numbers had made it harder to cover costs sustainably.

What could change

Under the proposals, service 41 would become a one-way route around Oxenholme before continuing to Sandylands, with buses running every 30 minutes.

Service 42 would continue every 30 minutes with minor amendments. Service 43 would still serve Morrisons but with a reduced timetable, while services 44 and 45 would also run less frequently. Service 44 would continue to Wattsfield.

Service 46 would be renumbered as service 44 and operate to Hallgarth. The proposed changes would also end service 445 entirely.

How to respond

The proposed new timetables are available for passengers to view as part of the consultation. Residents can send feedback by email to [email protected], using the subject line “Kendal Town Feedback”, before midnight on September 18.

The changes remain proposals while the consultation is open. The source material does not state whether Stagecoach has confirmed a final timetable or when any approved changes would begin.
