Police have warned that bicycle damage and litter are creating hazards at a Kendal cricket ground, with the condition of the pitches also increasing maintenance costs.
Officers patrolled Netherfield Cricket Club and nearby football pitches on Tuesday night after reports of damage to the playing surfaces. South Lakes Police said youngsters had repeatedly been seen riding bicycles across the grass and leaving significant amounts of rubbish behind, including drinks cans.
Damage to pitches and safety concerns
The force said litter was being shredded by tractors when the pitch was cut, creating further hazards for those maintaining the ground. The damage is also affecting the people who use the facilities.
Police said the condition of the fields could cause injury to young players using them for training sessions or matches. No further police action or repair plans were stated in the supplied report.
