A driver in Kendal has been fined twice after repeatedly removing both number plates from a car that was being left in a maximum one-hour parking bay, according to South Lakes Police.

Officers said the motorist regularly parked without displaying any registration plates. They believed the plates had been removed so the vehicle could avoid the attention of traffic wardens and evade parking fines.

Police response in Kendal

The recurring behaviour was noticed last week by a police community support officer on foot patrol. The PCSO then requested help from the police traffic department.

The driver was subsequently issued two separate tickets, with one ticket relating to each missing number plate. The motorist has not been named in the report.

Other vehicle concern noted

South Lakes Police also said officers had noticed that the car had an unnecessarily noisy exhaust. No further details about the exhaust or any action connected with it were provided.

The case was reported by Cumbria Crack News on 4 October 2026. The report also carried a picture supplied by South Lakes Police and noted that an unrelated vehicle in the background had been removed from the original image using artificial intelligence.
