Families in Kendal will be able to take part in autumn-themed crafts, games and creative activities through South Lakes Family Hubs, which has announced a programme for the October half term and a separate family games afternoon.

The half-term programme will run during the week beginning 26 October. The “Cats, Bats and Pumpkins” stay-and-play sessions will be held in Kendal, Milnthorpe, Flookburgh, Sedbergh and Ulverston, with a different location scheduled each day.

Family games afternoon in Kendal

A family games afternoon is also planned in Kendal on Friday 30 September, according to the council update. Children aged seven and over can attend with a responsible adult and choose from activities including building Lego creations, jewellery making and producing an item from air-drying clay.

Places for the Kendal session can be booked through the Family Hubs’ website. Families are also being directed to the Family Hub events calendar and booking system, as well as the South Lakes Family Hubs Facebook page, for further information.

Activities expanded across South Lakes

The update said the hubs had expanded their programme of free, universally accessible activities across South Lakes. The sessions mentioned included antenatal classes in Kendal, “Understanding Big Feelings” in Milnthorpe, and Stories and Rhymes in Flookburgh.

Earlier in September, Family Hubs staff attended the South Lakes Youth Summit and the Westmorland County Show on 9 and 10 September. At the show, they spoke with families at a stand in the Education tent to share information about their services and gather feedback about what local families need.

The council said the team made new connections at the youth summit and took part in workshops focused on work with young people across the region.
