Kendal’s first heritage weekend will continue this Sunday with a community autumn fete at Abbot Hall Park, bringing local organisations, family activities, food and drink vendors and live performances together in the town.
The fete is being hosted by Kendal Town Council and starts at noon. It will run alongside a history talk in the mayor’s parlour, giving visitors a choice of heritage and community-focused activities during the afternoon.

Families will be able to take part in activities including kite making and ebru marbling. Community information stalls will also be set up by a wide range of organisations, businesses and groups, including Animal Rescue Cumbria, Kendal Girl Guides, Kendal Lions, Kendal Community Theatre, Natural Kendal, the Lakes International Comic Arts Festival, the Kendal Rinteln Association and Wheels For All.
Other attending groups include the air cadets, Bee Friendly, the Breastfeeding Network, the Buddhist Group of Kendal Therevada, Cancercare, Friends of Nobles Rest, the Kendal Parish Church, Torchlight, The U3A, Waste Into Wellbeing, Wave Forward, With Singing in Mind and Youth Presence. Businesses and makers listed for the event include Barty Meltz, Dion Designs, Fresh Hot Donuts, Howson Handmade, Jess Levine, Seedling Creations, the Stack Shack, Sweet Treats and Well Being and Skincare Products and Advice.
Music, food and fundraising
Visitors can buy food and drink during the afternoon, with a craft ale marquee from Ring O’Bells, a pop-up gin and prosecco bar, sweet treats and burgers planned for the fete.
Kendal mayor Helen Ladhams and Councillor Doug Rathbone, chair of Westmorland and Furness Council, are due to speak when the event opens. Dance groups will perform throughout the afternoon, including Bhangra and Bollywood exhibitions, before local group Tokari closes the event with a final performance at 3.30pm.
Town council staff and councillors will run an information gazebo covering community resilience and their work in the area. Money raised will go towards the mayor’s nominated charities, Torchlight and Waste Into Wellbeing.
