Families planning Halloween in Kendal this year will find pumpkin picking, ghost tours, craft sessions and horror films across South Lakeland—but no confirmed town-centre parade, trail or trick-or-treat event.
Halloween falls on Saturday 31 October 2026, at the end of the October half term for Westmorland and Furness schools, which runs from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October. The main activities are outside Kendal, with additional family and film events at Brewery Arts on Highgate.
Where to pick pumpkins near Kendal
Lakeland Maze Farm Park at Raines Hall, Sedgwick, LA8 0JH, is the nearest pick-your-own pumpkin patch to Kendal listed in the programme. The farm park is open at weekends from Saturday 3 October, then daily from Saturday 24 to Saturday 31 October for half term. Opening hours are 10am to 5pm.
Pumpkin picking is included within the farm park rather than offered as a separate visit. Visitors need a farm park admission ticket, with online admission from 3 October to 1 November priced at £12.16 for adults and children aged two to 15. The door price is £13.50. Seniors aged 60 and over pay £8.83 online or £10.35 at the door, while under-twos are free but still need a booked place.
Pumpkins cost extra and are priced by size. Varieties include orange, white, green and striped pumpkins. Staffed carving sessions run at peak times, allowing visitors to carve on site. Advance booking is recommended because people without a booking may be turned away if the farm reaches capacity. Dogs are not allowed, apart from registered assistance dogs.
Ghost tours and Halloween days out
Levens Hall, five miles south of Kendal at LA8 0PD, is running candle-lit Ghostly House Tours from Thursday 29 October to Sunday 1 November. Tours take place at 4pm and 5pm, last about an hour and must be booked in advance. The tour ticket covers the evening tour only, rather than daytime admission.
The tours are not suitable for children under five or people with reduced mobility. Levens Hall is also listing a garden scavenger hunt, creative workshops and a costume competition. A Halloween ceramic-painting session is scheduled for Tuesday 27 October, from 11am to 1pm, with pumpkin lanterns costing £20 and star-jar lanterns £23. A mask workshop takes place on Thursday 29 October from 10am to 11.30am, costing £17 per child, with adults attending free.
At Holker Hall and Gardens, Cark-in-Cartmel, Halloween runs on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October from 10.30am to 4.30pm. Children can carve pumpkins, follow a ghostly garden trail and make monster crafts. Tickets cost £12 per child and are bought alongside an adult Gardens entry. Face painting costs extra, while a limited number of additional pumpkins will be available on the day on a first-come, first-served basis.
Storyteller Laureate Taffy Thomas is scheduled to perform in the Library at 11am and 2pm, with each session lasting about an hour. Tickets cost £5 per person and are required for every adult and child attending.
The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness is also listing Bea-tricks and Bats on Saturday 31 October, from 10.30am to 4pm. Children can decorate a bat box to take home for £6.50. The activity is a drop-in session, subject to available spaces.
Halloween films and events in Kendal
Brewery Arts, 122A Highgate, LA9 4HE, is showing its Cine-Macabre season of horror and ghost films until 11 November. The programme includes Zombie Flesh Eaters on Thursday 22 October, Pulse on Wednesday 28 October, and Creepshow followed by Trick ‘r Treat on Friday 30 October.
On Halloween itself, Halloween (15) is scheduled for 8.15pm on Saturday 31 October. Earlier in the fortnight, families can attend Frightful Family Crafts on Saturday 24 October, for children aged four and over with an adult. The craft session costs £6.50, or £12 including the 4.15pm screening of Hocus Pocus.
The Brewery Arts programme also lists a 75-minute Kendal Ghost Walk followed by the 1944 film The Uninvited on Sunday 1 November. The £19.50 event was marked sold out when checked on 3 October.
There is currently no Halloween event listed for Kendal town centre by Kendal BID or Visit Kendal’s events diary. Dates for possible events at Brockhole on Windermere and Lakeland Wildlife Oasis in Milnthorpe had also not been confirmed when checked on 3 October.
Levens Hall, Lakeland Maze and Holker are all outside Kendal, so visitors should check booking information and travel arrangements before setting off. Further event dates may be added if organisers publish new details.
