Leeds Building Society has pledged to keep its Kendal branch open until at least 2031, offering reassurance for local customers who use face-to-face banking services on the high street.

The branch on Stricklandgate has been closed since August 7 while refurbishment work takes place. It is due to reopen on October 26, according to the society’s latest update.

Branch closure is temporary

Customers who need to visit a branch while the Kendal premises remain closed will have to travel further afield. The society’s nearest alternatives are in Yeadon and Harrogate.

The Kendal commitment forms part of a nationwide pledge by Leeds Building Society. The organisation has said all of its branches will remain open until at least September 2031.

Promises on in-person banking and savings

As part of a series of new promises, the society said customers would continue to be able to speak to staff either in a branch or over the phone.

It also said it would not offer savings accounts restricted to new customers. Customers would be offered the best available rate when an account matures, according to the announcement.

For Kendal customers, the immediate change is the temporary closure on Stricklandgate, followed by the planned reopening on October 26. The longer-term pledge means the branch is expected to remain available locally until at least September 2031.
