Kendal Mountain Search and Rescue Team helped evacuate a Lake District climber who developed chest pains during a busy afternoon for mountain rescue teams in Langdale.

Langdale Mountain Rescue Team said it was called to two incidents on Monday, September 28. The first alert came from Cumbria Police at 11.50am about a person with an ankle injury on Low Pike.

The team travelled up the fell, assessed the injury and stretchered the casualty down to vehicles. The person then planned to make their own way to hospital.

Second incident at White Ghyll

At 12.50pm, while members were still travelling to the first incident, the team was notified that a climber was suffering chest pains at White Ghyll in Langdale. The symptoms began after the climber had safely reached the ground at the bottom of the crag.

Because its members were already occupied, Langdale Mountain Rescue Team requested assistance from Kendal Mountain Search and Rescue Team, as well as the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Medication and pain relief were given before the climber was carried a short distance down the ghyll. The casualty was then winched into a helicopter and flown to hospital.

Teams thanked for assistance

Langdale Mountain Rescue Team thanked Kendal Mountain Search and Rescue Team for splitting its resources to help with the second incident. It also thanked the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and members of the public who offered assistance.
