Kendal will hold its main Remembrance Sunday commemorations on Sunday 8 November 2026, with residents expected to gather for a service at Kendal Parish Church and a two-minute silence at 11am at the war memorial in Market Place.
The civic events have been listed by Kendal Town Council, which says the morning will include a service followed by a commemoration. The council’s events information was checked on 25 September 2026.
What is confirmed for Remembrance Sunday
The principal event is the service at Kendal Parish Church, followed by the commemoration and silence at the Market Place war memorial. The two-minute silence will take place at 11am.
The town’s Remembrance Sunday programme is separate from Armistice Day, which falls on Wednesday 11 November. On that day, the Mayor is due to lay a wreath at the war memorial in Market Place.
Kendal Town Council describes Armistice Day as “a moment of reflection following the main commemorative events held on Remembrance Sunday”.
Previous timings offer a guide
The council has not yet published the detailed 2026 running order. The most recent detailed timetable available, published by Visit Kendal for 2023, shows how the morning has run in previous years.
- The Mayor laid wreaths at the Gilkes memorial and Romney Gardens first.
- At 9.30am, wreaths were laid at the Market Place war memorial with veterans, armed forces members, the Royal British Legion and others wishing to pay tribute.
- At 10.25am, a procession travelled from the Town Hall down Highgate to Kendal Parish Church.
- At 10.45am, the Remembrance service took place at the church.
- At 11am, a piper or bugler played the Last Post and the Exhortation was read in Market Place for people not attending the service.
- At about 11.45am, the parade returned up Highgate to the Town Hall.
These timings are a guide only and should not be treated as the confirmed 2026 schedule until Kendal Town Council publishes the final arrangements. If the previous pattern is followed, Market Place will be the key location for the silence, while Highgate will provide a route along which to watch the parade.
Travel and further updates
The parade route uses Highgate. There is no free council car park in Kendal, although South Lakeland House has a Sunday rate of £1.50 for the whole day.
The 2026 times for wreath-laying, the parade and the service remain to be confirmed. Further details are expected to be checked with Kendal Town Council and updated in late October.
