Kendal Rugby Union Football Club has yet to confirm whether a planned volunteer maintenance day at Mint Bridge went ahead, leaving residents, supporters and club families without a clear update on work intended to prepare the site for the 2026/27 season.
The session was scheduled for 10am on Saturday 8 August. However, information published after the planned date does not say whether volunteers arrived, how many people attended or whether the club still needs help at its Kendal base.
Work planned at Mint Bridge
The maintenance day was intended to cover the clubhouse and wider Mint Bridge facilities. Proposed jobs included clearing and tidying the kit room and container, painting, repairs and cleaning inside the clubhouse.
Volunteers were also asked to help with general tidying, sorting and organising archived collections. The appeal did not require specialist maintenance experience, although it did not provide a detailed list of the skills required.
Because the club has not published an outcome, it is not known which of the proposed jobs, if any, were completed. That means there is no confirmed account of the condition of the facilities ahead of the new campaign or whether further work remains outstanding.
Who could volunteer?
The appeal was open to Kendal Rugby Club members, families, players, parents and supporters, as well as local residents. People did not need to be current players or formal club members to take part at the Mint Bridge site.
The club also offered flexibility for people unable to commit to a full day. Volunteers could attend for the whole session or for as little as one hour.
Those who attended were promised a lunchtime thank-you consisting of a beer, a small wine or a soft drink, together with a burger. The offer followed an earlier Saturday gathering that the club described as having an “excellent turnout”, although no attendance figure was given.
No replacement date announced
There is currently no confirmed replacement date or further volunteering opportunity at Mint Bridge in the available material. The club has not announced that another maintenance day has been arranged.
For Kendal residents, supporters and club families who want to help, the previous appeal should therefore be treated as a historical request rather than confirmation of a new session. A separate announcement would be needed before assuming that more maintenance work or an ongoing volunteering arrangement is available.
