Kendal Rugby Union Football Club has yet to confirm what happened at a planned volunteer maintenance day at its Mint Bridge base, leaving members, supporters, club families and local residents without a clear public account of the event.
The session was scheduled to begin at 10am on Saturday 8 August as part of preparations for the club’s 2026/27 campaign. However, information published by Kendal Report on 24 August and updated on 25 August did not establish whether volunteers arrived, which jobs were completed or whether the club still needed help at the ground.
Work planned at Mint Bridge
The appeal covered the clubhouse and wider Mint Bridge facilities. Volunteers were asked to clear and tidy the kit room and container, carry out painting and repairs, and clean inside the clubhouse.
Other proposed jobs included general tidying, sorting and organising archived collections. Specialist maintenance experience was not required, although the appeal did not provide a detailed list of specific skills that might have been useful.
Because the club has not published an outcome, it is not known which tasks, if any, were completed. There is also no confirmed account of the condition of the facilities before the campaign or whether maintenance work remains outstanding.
Who could take part?
The invitation was open to Kendal Rugby Club members, families, players, parents and supporters, as well as local residents. People did not need to be current players or formal club members to participate.
The proposed format was designed to accommodate people who could not commit to a full shift. Volunteers could attend for the whole session or for as little as one hour.
Those taking part were promised a lunchtime thank-you consisting of a beer, a small wine or a soft drink, together with a burger. The offer followed an earlier Saturday gathering that the club had described as having an excellent turnout, although no attendance figure was provided.
