Kendal Rugby Union Football Club has still not confirmed what happened at its planned volunteer maintenance day at Mint Bridge, weeks after the session was due to take place. Members, families, players, parents, supporters and local residents are therefore without a clear account of what work was completed before the 2026/27 season.
The maintenance day was scheduled for 10am on Saturday 8 August. Material published after that date does not establish whether volunteers arrived, how many people attended or whether the club still needs help at its Kendal base.
Work planned at Mint Bridge
The appeal covered the clubhouse and wider Mint Bridge facilities. Volunteers were asked to clear and tidy the kit room and container, paint, carry out repairs and clean inside the clubhouse.
Other planned jobs included general tidying, sorting and organising archived collections. Specialist maintenance experience was not required, although the appeal did not set out a detailed list of skills that might be needed.
Because no outcome has been published, it is not known which tasks, if any, were completed. There is also no confirmed account of the facilities’ condition before the campaign or whether maintenance work remains outstanding.
Who could volunteer?
The invitation was open to Kendal Rugby Club members, families, players, parents and supporters, as well as local residents. Volunteers did not need to be current players or formal club members.
The club also sought to include people unable to commit to a full day. Volunteers could attend for the whole session or for as little as one hour.
Those who took part were promised a lunchtime thank-you of a beer, a small wine or a soft drink, together with a burger. The offer followed an earlier Saturday gathering that the club described as having an excellent turnout, although no attendance figure was provided.
No replacement date announced
There is currently no confirmed replacement date or further volunteering opportunity at Mint Bridge in the available material. The club has not announced another maintenance day.
Residents, supporters and club families who want to help should treat the previous appeal as a historical request, rather than confirmation that a new session is planned.
