People in Kendal will have the chance to meet charities, community organisations and public services at a volunteering fair taking place next month.
The event will be held at Kendal Leisure Centre on October 4, from 11am to 2.30pm. Visitors will be able to speak directly with participating organisations, find out more about available roles and sign up as volunteers.
Organisations attending in Kendal
The Kendal fair will feature Sight Advice, Friends of the Lake District, Carers Support South Lakes, The Armitt Museum, St John’s Hospice, SSAFA, the North West Air Ambulance Charity, the NSPCC, Sightline and Cumbria police.
Cumbria CVS will also attend the Kendal event, as well as a separate fair in Penrith, to answer questions and provide information about volunteering.
Why organisers say volunteering matters
Cumbria CVS said volunteering can help people take on a new challenge, develop their skills, expand their social networks and build self-esteem and confidence. It also said volunteering can provide a sense of purpose and help people connect with their local community.
“As a volunteer you will gain so much, whether you are looking to enjoy a new challenge, diversify your skills, widen your social networks, improve your self esteem and confidence, or gain a sense of purpose. “You can be a part of your local community, improve your mental health and wellbeing, make a difference to the lives of others, improve the environment, or take a step towards a new career.”
The two fairs are being run by Cumbria CVS and GLL as part of an Age Friendly Festival. A separate event will take place at Penrith Leisure Centre on October 1, from 10am to 2pm.
