Kendal Wasps will take on Keswick at Mint Bridge this Sunday (30), with the match due to kick off at 2.00pm. The fixture offers an early test for two clubs beginning the new campaign after very different seasons.

Kendal Rugby Union Football Club said the Wasps struggled last season and ultimately fell just short of retaining their place in Championship North 2. The club said one more bonus point would have been enough for Kendal to stay in the division.

A different challenge for Kendal

Keswick arrive after winning the North 1 title, recording 10 wins from 12 matches. According to Kendal Rugby Union Football Club, Keswick also collected 11 try-scoring bonus points and a losing bonus point before narrowly finishing level on points with Ryton and taking promotion.

That outcome means the two clubs swap places at the start of this season, setting up a useful test for Kendal at home. The Wasps have already had a positive result against Keswick in a previous pre-season meeting, travelling to Keswick at the start of last season and winning comfortably.

What comes next

Kendal’s league campaign will begin at home against Peterlee and Horden on 27 September. Keswick will start its new season a week later, away to Liverpool St Helens.

The teams are also scheduled to meet again on 4 October in the Intermediate Cup, with that match also set to take place at Mint Bridge. For supporters planning to attend Sunday’s fixture, kick-off is 2.00pm.
