South Lakes Housing has introduced new electric vans for the team responsible for repairs, maintenance and other essential services, with the vehicles set to support work for residents in Kendal and across the organisation’s communities.
The housing provider says the investment is intended to reduce carbon emissions while allowing its Property Services colleagues to continue travelling to residents and carrying out essential work. The vans will be used for repairs, maintenance and related services rather than for a separate passenger or public transport operation.
New vehicles visit Hallgarth in Kendal
Members of South Lakes Housing’s Senior Leadership Team were the first passengers to try the electric vehicles during a visit to Hallgarth in Kendal last week. They held an informal drop-in session with residents during the visit, with tea and cake provided.
The organisation’s Property Services team is now preparing to take responsibility for the vehicles. South Lakes Housing said the vans are ready to be handed over to their new drivers and will soon be seen travelling through its communities as staff continue delivering services to residents.
The provider also invited residents to wave when they see the electric vans on the road.
Part of wider sustainability plans
South Lakes Housing said the purchase forms part of its wider commitment to sustainability and the goals set out in its environmental, social and governance ambitions. Alongside the expected reduction in emissions, it said electric vehicles can help lower running costs and support the move towards cleaner transport across the region.
Paul Smith, South Lakes Housing’s Director of Property Operations, said: “Introducing electric vans is another positive step in reducing our environmental impact while continuing to provide high-quality services for our residents. This investment supports our wider sustainability ambitions, helping us reduce carbon emissions while ensuring our teams can continue delivering essential repairs and maintenance services across our communities.”
South Lakes Housing presented the new vehicles with members of its Property Services and leadership teams, including Cory Robinson, Repairs Manager, and colleagues identified as Cory, Paul, Ian, Josh, Pam, Martha, Niki, Lauren and Steve in the organisation’s announcement.
