Two people have been arrested after a vehicle stop in Kendal led to a suspected drink-driving investigation and the discovery of seven new waterproof jackets.

South Lakes police, supported by officers from Cumbria Police’s firearms support unit, stopped the vehicle on Oxenholme Road at around 10pm on Saturday.

Driver failed roadside breath test

The woman driving the vehicle smelled of alcohol and failed a roadside breath test. She later provided a reading in custody that was almost twice the legal drink-drive limit.

Jackets linked to Ambleside shop theft

A man travelling in the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of shop theft after officers searched it and found the seven jackets.

South Lakes police said the waterproof jackets had been identified as stolen from an outdoor store in Ambleside earlier that day.

Both suspects were interviewed and released on bail. The source does not state their ages, identities or the date of the arrests.
