Kendal Parish Church will host an evening of classical music when Westmorland Orchestra performs a programme spanning familiar international works and contemporary composition at 7pm on Sunday 15 November.
The concert will be led by guest conductor Helen Harrison. Its programme brings together music by local composer Anna Appleby with works by Edvard Grieg and Carl Nielsen, giving audiences the chance to hear established orchestral repertoire alongside a newer local voice.
What is being performed
Grieg’s Peer Gynt will feature alongside Nielsen’s Symphony No. 3. The Nielsen work includes two wordless solo voices, adding a vocal element without sung lyrics to the orchestral performance.
Appleby’s contemporary piece, Bridges, will also be performed. The work explores the idea of connection and provides a modern contrast with music rooted in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Tickets and concert details
Westmorland Orchestra said the programme is designed to move between familiar favourites, contemporary creativity and a major twentieth-century symphonic work. The orchestra described Grieg’s Peer Gynt as instantly recognisable and said it would bring the music “vividly to life”.
Tickets are available on the door or in advance through TicketSource at ticketsource.com/wes. The performance takes place in November at Kendal Parish Church, with the concert beginning at 7pm on Sunday 15 November.
