Families planning a Christmas outing near Kendal can book Winter at Sizergh 2026, with the National Trust event running every day from Friday 20 November until Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December. The estate’s house, garden, café and shop will offer a festive programme stretching into the evening.

The event combines Christmas decorations inside Sizergh’s house with an outdoor light and sound trail in the garden. Visitors can also take part in self-led festive crafts in the Great Barn, while the café and shop remain open until 8pm during the event.

Dates, opening times and what to expect

Winter at Sizergh will open from noon until 8pm daily. The garden, café and shop will be open from 10am to 8pm, while the house will be available from midday. The National Trust says the installations are nature-themed, created by local artists and inspired by Sizergh’s estate and winter wildlife.

“Wander through new nature-themed light and sound installations, designed by local artists and inspired by Sizergh’s estate, and get closer to our winter wildlife. Discover Christmas in the house, then get creative in the Great Barn, with self-led festive crafts for all.”

The trail is outdoors and may be muddy, so visitors are advised to bring waterproof clothing and wellies. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters can be hired from reception. During the event, wheelchair users can reach the first floor of the house through the Chapel, with access to the Chapel, Chapel Corridor and Library.

House closure before the event

Sizergh’s house will close from Monday 2 November to Thursday 19 November while the Christmas event is installed. The house will then close after Christmas Eve and remain shut through the rest of the year, although the garden, café and shop will reopen from 10am to 4pm between 26 and 31 December.

The National Trust’s winter calendar had not yet published opening information beyond 31 December 2026.
