Four Kendal council sites could be sold as surplus list reaches full council

Mintsfeet depot, County Hall, the Kendal East family hub site and land on Fowl Ing Lane are among properties Westmorland and Furness Council has identified as no longer needed for current services. The council had not published the outcome of a vote on the list by Friday evening.

Kendal Remembrance Sunday 2026: where to gather for the 11am silence

Kendal will mark Remembrance Sunday on 8 November 2026 with a service at Kendal Parish Church and a two-minute silence at 11am at the war memorial in Market Place. The Mayor will lay a wreath at the same memorial on Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November.

South Lakes Housing earns national LGBTQ+ inclusion status after Kendal Pride support

South Lakes Housing has been awarded LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge Pioneer status after demonstrating work to make its homes and services safer, more inclusive and welcoming. The Cumbria provider signed up to the national pledge in October 2025 and was recognised for resident engagement, staff training, communications, its relationship with Rainbow Roofs and attendance at Kendal Pride.

Kendal weather forecast: heavy rain today, overnight downpours and a brighter Saturday

Kendal is forecast to have a wet and cloudy day with a 93 per cent chance of rain and a high of 16°C. Thursday should bring a dry daytime pause before heavy rain returns overnight, while Friday looks showery and cooler. Saturday is expected to be the brightest and driest part of the five-day outlook, although unsettled conditions are forecast to return on Sunday.

Kendal is expected to see heavy showers today and a very wet Friday, with a 95 per cent chance of heavy downpours. Drier weather and sunny spells are forecast for Saturday before rain returns overnight on Sunday and milder, showery conditions arrive on Monday.

160-home Kendal housing scheme near Oxenholme faces final planning decision

Outline plans for up to 160 homes between Kendal Parks and the railway tracks near Oxenholme Railway Station are recommended for approval, subject to 35 per cent of the properties being affordable. The proposal has attracted objections from Kendal Town Council, Sport England and local residents over traffic, infrastructure, green space and the loss of a sporting facility.
