Kendal Rugby Union Football Club has opened its historical record books, publishing senior-team appearance and scoring tables for its First XV and Wasps teams. The records span more than a century of rugby and identify Glenn Chesher as the First XV’s leading appearance-maker and Hayley Hodgson as the Wasps’ highest recorded points scorer.
The club has described the tables as the best available account based on the information found so far. It has also warned that gaps may remain in the Wasps material, meaning some totals could change if additional records are uncovered.
Chesher leads First XV appearances
The First XV appearance records cover the period from 1905 through to the end of the 2025 season. Chesher heads the table with 243 matches, narrowly ahead of Matt Houghton on 240. Alistair Thompson is third with 200 appearances, followed by Reece Tomlinson on 183 and Dini Noyo on 157.
The list brings together players from different eras of Kendal Rugby Club’s history, including long-serving figures and more recent names.
Houghton also appears among the leading First XV scorers, but Aaron Stephens tops that table with 361 points from 78 appearances. His total consists of 12 tries, nine conversions and 53 penalties.
Houghton is second with 320 points, while Noyo is third on 295. Evan Moir has scored 227 points from 25 appearances, including 16 tries, three conversions and two penalties. Ollie Rose completes the listed leading scorers with 140 points from 42 appearances.
Wasps records remain subject to change
The Wasps statistics cover the 2013/14 campaign to 2025/26. Aimee Sharp is the leading recorded appearance-maker with 125 matches. Sarah Wilkinson follows on 110 appearances, with Hodgson listed on 109.
Hodgson also leads the Wasps scoring table, with 734 points from 140 tries and 17 conversions. Wilkinson is second on 270 points and Tamar Benson follows with 253.
The club says the Wasps records combine entries from the team’s first listed campaign in 2013/14 with newer information from the 2025/26 season. Because the underlying material may be incomplete, further research could alter some of the published figures.
A reference point for Kendal rugby
Downloadable documents now cover Wasps appearances and scoring from 2013/14 to 2025/26, alongside combined First XV appearance and scoring records covering 1905 to 2026.
The publication gives current and former players, supporters and the wider Kendal rugby community a reference point for the club’s leading players. It also provides a basis for future updates if additional Wasps records are found and added.
